Digital Publishing FAQ's

Can I offer subscriptions in my app?

Yes, by leveraging the Newsstand auto-renewable subscription model, purchasing renewable subscriptions is

seamlessly integrated with your app.

Subscriptions work in the standard industry accepted process:

User purchases a subscription (i.e. 6-month, 1-year) and then all issues (including back-issues) become free for the user to download.

An example:

You have 10 back issues which are each priced at $1.99

Every month you add another issue which is $2.99

When the user purchases a subscription, then ALL issues (including back-issues)
become FREE for the user to download

Note: The above is the industry standard for subscriptions. TapEdition also offers a non-industry standard subscription model in which we can customize the subscription to only unlock issues based on rules.
For example: You can create a subscription in which only current issue and the next 3 issues become unlocked, while all back-issues remain paid, even after subscription is purchased.

This non-industry standard requires customization add-on which starts at $4,000 and contains a revenue share model.

Once my app is published, can I add further issues and how long does it take to distribute to all my readers?

Once your app is on the Apple App Store or Newsstand, and you add additional issues. Therefore, recommend that when you add new issues you give at least 10 business days before you wish the issue to be accessible to your readers.

After my app is published, can I make updates to the hotspots and interactions?

This is the beauty of TapEdition. You are free to make as many changes or additions as you want to hotspots or interactions. For example, you can add further embedded videos or photo galleries, even after your app is published and the changes are distributed immediately to all your readers.

Resolution for iPad (Retina): 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi) Resolution for iPhone (Retina): 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi

Tips for your in PDF:
♦ All pages in a single PDF file, with the pages in order
♦ Single pages (not double-page spreads)
♦ Files should be optimised as much as possible to reduce file size (roughly 150dpi)
♦ Cropped to exact art size (no need for crop marks/bleed etc, as it is not a traditional print process)
♦ Output to PDF version 1.3 (for optimum compatibility)
♦ Embedded fonts (not subset, please avoid CID Type H encoded fonts)
♦ Objects with transparency need to be flattened (high resolution is preferred for best quality)

Although there is no limitation on file size, it is recommended that the file size be as small as possible [preferrably less than 50MB]. Keep in mind that you want to offer the best user experience and if the user has to wait to long to download an issue, they will not be happy.
